University of Denver hockey team heads back to college hockey’s ‘Final Four’

The University of Denver hockey team is headed back to the “Frozen Four” after rolling past defending national champion Western Michigan 6-2 Sunday (March 29) in the NCAA West Regional Final at Blue Arena in Loveland.
The Pioneers (27-11-3) scored four goals in the first period to take early control and avenged last season’s Frozen Four loss to the Broncos. It marks the fourth time in five seasons Denver has reached the national semifinals, and the 21st time in program history.
Denver will face top-seeded Michigan in the national semifinals April 9 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. MT on ESPN2. Wisconsin and North Dakota will meet in the other semifinal at 5 p.m. ET. The national championship game is April 11 at 5:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
The four semifinalists have a combined 33 national championships, the most in Frozen Four history. Denver leads all programs with 10 titles and is seeking its 11th.
Denver blanked Cornell 5-0 in the regional semifinals Friday before dismantling Western Michigan on Sunday. The Pioneers have won 10 straight games and are unbeaten in their last 14.
