Is Your Adult Kid Moving Back In? You’re Not Alone, Denver

Jul 20, 2026, 7:39 AM

And neither is your kid, apparently — literally.

The Federal Reserve just dropped its 2025 annual household survey, and honey, the numbers are something.

Nearly half — 49% — of adults under 30 are currently living with their parents. That’s up from 43% back in 2022. So if you’ve got a basement that’s slowly becoming a studio apartment, welcome to the club.

The survey also shows financial well-being is declining for young adults, low-income families, and Black Americans, with almost half of young adults relying on outside financial help just to get by. The job market isn’t doing them any favors either — 25% of people under 30 aren’t working or are only working part-time because adequate jobs simply aren’t there.

Right here in Denver, 11% of adults ages 25-34 were living with a parent in 2023 — reflecting a national trend that’s been climbing since 1970.

Look, as a mom, this hits differently. We raise these kids, we dream of the empty nest… and then reality shows up with its student loans and $2,000 rent prices.

The bottom line? This isn’t laziness. This is economics. And our young adults deserve real solutions — better jobs, affordable housing, and maybe just a little grace.

Even if they do leave dishes in the sink. 🙄❤️
