Safety Alert: Recall issued for children’s ibuprofen

Parents, please check your medicine cabinets. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a voluntary recall for specific lots of children’s ibuprofen oral suspension products.

The recall follows reports of a potential manufacturing defect. The manufacturer received complaints regarding a “gel-like mass” found within the liquid, as well as reports of small, black particles. While no serious injuries have been reported to date, the presence of these foreign substances poses a potential choking hazard and could lead to bacterial infection or other gastrointestinal issues.

“As a member of this community, I know how much we rely on these staples to keep our little ones comfortable when they’re feeling under the weather,” says KOSI 101.1’s own morning team. “Your children’s safety is the top priority, so please take a moment to double-check those bottles before the next dose.”

What You Should Do:

• Check the Label: Look for the specific lot numbers and expiration dates listed on the FDA’s official recall database.
• Stop Use: If you have an affected bottle, stop using it immediately and discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
• Consult Your Doctor: If your child has already consumed medication from a recalled lot and is showing signs of illness, contact your pediatrician.

The product, Children’s Ibuprofen Oral Suspension, USP, 100 mg per 5mL, 4 FL OZ (120 mL) bottle, was manufactured for Taro Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc.

The recalled products have lot numbers  7261973A and 7261974A with an expiry date of Jan. 31, 2027.
