Companies warn customers against expecting exact change due to coin shortage

No more pennies means no more exact change. Don’t expect exact change when paying with cash, some businesses are warning customers.

Personally, I thought the guy at the gas station was just being nice when he took change off to give me a dollar back instead, now I know he didn’t have the change to give me back. He is not alone.

MSN says some businesses are warning customers not to expect exact change when paying with cash due to a coin shortage. Companies are encouraging customers to use exact change or alternative payment methods.

The US Department of Treasury is going to stop minting pennies in early 2026, because they cost more than a cent to produce. This has sparked a penny shortage.

Home Depot is posting signs warning of the shortage and asking customers that they will need exact change for cash transactions. Gas stations are also posting similar signs.
