The great chocolate betrayal: Cadbury Creme Eggs lose the dairy milk

Mar 26, 2026, 9:11 AM

If you’re a fan of the gooey, sugar-bomb that is the Cadbury Creme Egg, you might want to brace yourself for a bit of a heartbreak.

In a move that has purists everywhere clutching their pearls, Cadbury has officially confirmed that the recipe for their iconic Easter staple has changed. The company is ditching the traditional “Dairy Milk” chocolate shell in favor of a standard cocoa mix.

Yes, you read that right. The “Dairy Milk” branding has quietly vanished from the packaging.

Typical corporate deflection: Cadbury says, “The Creme Egg had never been called Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Creme Egg. We have never played on the fact that Dairy Milk was used.”

I’ve spent the better part of my life relying on these eggs to help me survive the tail end of a Colorado winter. We’ve already dealt with the shrinking size of the eggs—don’t think we didn’t notice, Cadbury—but messing with the chocolate? That feels personal.

For those of you already drafting your angry emails, keep in mind that the company claims the change is necessary to maintain a “consistent” taste across their global markets. Apparently, the rest of the world has been eating this version for a while now, and we’re just late to the party.

Is it still going to send your blood sugar through the roof? Absolutely. Will it still satisfy that mid-afternoon craving during a long shift here at the KOSI 101.1 studios? Probably. But let’s be honest: it’s just not the same without that specific, creamy melt we grew up with.

So, Denver, grab a pack while you can, or prepare to mourn the loss of an era. Whether this is a delicious update or a total disaster, we want to know what you think. Hit us up on the KOSI socials and let us know if you can taste the difference—or if you’re just in it for the fondant anyway.

Stay sweet, Denver.
