2024 Emmy Awards winners

Award season is in full swing.
The Emmy Awards, which highlight the television industry’s technical and artistic wins, will celebrate its 76th year with a three-hour live broadcast from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles starting at 6 p.m. MT. Father-son “Schitt’s Creek” duo Eugene and Dan Levy are lined up to host the show.
The Emmys, presented by the Television Academy, will look different this year, mainly due to the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023, which lasted several months. Less writers meant less production, limiting the projects up for awards, making options a little sparse. Contributing to this year’s oddity is also the fact that the 76th edition of the ceremony comes just nine months after the 75th, which was postponed from September 2023 because of the strikes.
The awards show will consider work in television that aired any time from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024. Nominations were announced on July 17.
Leading nominations in the comedy categories is FX series “The Bear,” centered around the kitchen environment in a Chicago restaurant. FX isn’t putting all of its eggs in one basket, though. Another show from the network, “Shōgun,” a historical drama set in Japan in 1600, has the potential to win trophies in several of the drama categories. “Baby Reindeer,” a Netflix British drama based on aspiring comedian Donny Dunn’s real-life experiences with a stalker, pops up in several categories as well. “Shōgun” leads the pack with 25 nominations, “The Bear” next with 23 and “Baby Reindeer” with 11.
Winners for 14 categories, which include comedy, drama and limited series are decided by the TV Academy, consisting of more than 17,000 voting members. On the other hand, the acting, directing and writing award winners are determined by peer groups.
Viewers can watch the event on ABC, and the ceremony will be available to stream on Hulu on Monday.
