Watch: Wheat Ridge officer almost gets bit by rattlesnake while searching car

The Wheat Ridge police officer was just checking things inside the vehicle when he opened up a plastic container lid that was next to drug paraphernalia and found a live rattlesnake rattling back at him. On the officer’s body camera you can see him quickly shut the lid and ask the vehicle owner if they were aware that there was a rattlesnake back there.
The vehicle owner was just getting dropped off to their vehicle by an Uber at the same time the cops were there to search the vehicle left at the trailhead.
The officer told one of his colleagues on scene that the snake tried to snap at him and then asked the owners, “Does he have any other things that might bite me?”
In addition to the large venomous snake, the officer also found drugs and a gun. The car’s owner won’t face charges, but investigators are trying to find the person who borrowed the vehicle.
The officer maintained his cool and said, “I’ve seen enough Steve Irwin documentaries. I know how this goes.”
Cops advised that the rattlesnake get to a vet.
