The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has issued mandatory evacuation orders for nearly 600 homes due to a wildfire burning near Deer Creek Canyon southwest of Denver.
The evacuation order is in effect for the Deer Creek Mesa, Sampson and Maxwell subdivisions southwest of Ken Caryl. Deputies and firefighters knocked on doors and sent emergency alerts to notify residents of the evacuation order.
The fire, which is being called the Quarry Fire, has burned about 100 acres in the area of Deer Creek Canyon Road just west of Grizzly Drive. Firefighters from multiple agencies are responding. A sheriff’s deputy patrolling a Jeffco open space in the area spotted the fire around 9 p.m. Still showing 0% contained and growing.
As of the 7 a.m. press conference, first responders were not aware of any structures lost or injuries due to the fire. Thank God for that but there will be a critical need in the future days for assistance. Contact the Red Cross to see how you are able to help our neighbors also a great resource for you to make a plan before it is too late!
