History teacher takes over after power outage at The Odyssey

Jul 27, 2026, 6:09 PM | Updated: 6:10 pm

This is just another reason why I love teachers.

The power recently went out at a Dallas area Cinépolis theater during a screening of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

The emergency lights came on, and the audience sat in the dark — until a history teacher in the crowd stood up and took over.

She launched into a lecture about Agamemnon, the king of Mycenae who commanded the Achaeans during the Trojan War, played by Benny Safdie in the film.

The whole theater went silent. No one left.

The moment, captured on TikTok, went massively viral — and the internet absolutely loved it.

People were quick to point out that The Odyssey and The Iliad were originally oral stories, passed down by spoken word for generations before ever being written down.

One commenter nailed it: “There’s something quite fitting about this being an oral story again.”

Others chimed in:

“Literally how the story was intended to be told.”

“She’s been waiting for this moment her entire life.”

“She can do the Odyssey, but Nolan could never replicate HER.”

Homer told it by firelight. She told it by emergency light. Everyone stayed. The End.
