Endless Cruise comes to an end over fuel budget

It sounded too good to be true and now we know it was. An endless cruise around the world as long as you check the fuel.
It sounds like a dream. Sell everything and move onto a cruise ship, travel the world and eat at buffets for the rest of my life. No cooking. No dishes. Just wake up somewhere new and decide whether it’s too early for a second breakfast. Sounds like heaven.
Now, the passengers have been stranded with all their belongings in Cambodia.
Fuel is the last thing I was thinking about and so it was for the companies as well.
The Villa Vie Odyssey, a residential ship marketed as an “endless” cruise, has suspended operations in Cambodia. The company blames extraordinary increases in fuel costs.
According to Villa Vie, monthly fuel expenses that historically averaged around $1,800 per cabin have climbed as high as $8,000.
That would definitely put a dent in my unlimited-buffet retirement plan.
Residents were told to leave the ship with their belongings in Cambodia.
This is the part where this stops being funny. This wasn’t simply a vacation ending early. For these passengers, the ship was their home. They got evicted from their home in another country.
The company says it can’t realistically pass the entire increase along to residents and is pursuing restructuring and new funding.
As for the residents kicked off the cruise? Get ready for lawsuits.
Have you ever dreamed of living on a cruise ship—or would you miss home too much?
