Simone Biles suffered a calf injury during Sunday’s Olympic gymnastics trials. Biles is scheduled to compete in all four events – uneven bars, vault, floor exercise and balance beam in Tuesday’s Olympic team finals. Biles hurt her calf during warmups Sunday, but described the injury as minor and other people close to her said she has been dealing with it for weeks.
Biles was still able to complete her trials in vault and floor exercise.
Team USA will send its top three gymnasts to Tuesday’s final.
Biles withdrew from numerous events in Tokyo three years ago following the “twisties” phenomenon. This is when a gymnast can lose a sense of where they are while in the air resulting in a potentially dangerous landing.
Biles has said that she is feeling well today and credits therapy with helping her to recover.
