The U.S. women’s soccer team has claimed the Olympic gold medal once again, triumphing over Brazil with a score of 1-0 in the gold medal match on Saturday.
Under the guidance of new coach Emma Hayes, the Americans have remained undefeated in France, marking their fifth gold medal in six Olympic women’s soccer finals.
After missing the finals in the last two Olympic tournaments—being eliminated in the quarterfinals in Rio 2016 and finishing in the bronze-medal match in Tokyo three years ago—the team has made a strong comeback.
The match against Brazil started off slowly, with no goals scored in the first half. However, just before the 57-minute mark, Team USA’s Mallory Swanson found the back of the net, giving the U.S. the lead and putting Brazil in a tough spot to recover.
