Denver getting women’s professional rugby team

If you’ve been enjoying watching the Olympics women’s rugby team, you’ll be excited about this update. The Women’s Elite Rugby organization announced on Wednesday that three cities will be getting a professional women’s rugby team and Denver is one of cities!
Women’s Elite Rugby is the first professional U.S. women’s rugby league. The announcement said that Denver and the other two cities will see the team by Spring of 2025.
It may surprise you to learn that Denver has a long history with women’s rugby. In fact, according to the U.S. Women’s Rugby Foundation, the first competitive U.S. women’s team was at the University of Colorado and Colorado State University in 1971.
WER says they plan on having six to eight teams, including the one already announced in Denver. The teams will consist of 30 players and the players will be announced in January 2025.
The other two cities to get women’s rugby teams are Boston and Chicago.
