“I wasn’t driving.” The man tried to repeatedly tell the cop. The cop wasn’t buying it.
A traffic stop in Parker, Colorado is going viral after a driver tried to talk his way out of a speeding ticket by blaming his Tesla’s autopilot.
Bodycam footage from the July 21st stop shows the driver was clocked doing 64 in a 45.
When the officer told him he was going too fast, the driver’s defense was simple: “I wasn’t driving. That’s a Tesla driving autopilot, sir.”
The officer wasn’t impressed. “You’re in the driver’s seat… you can blame the car all you want.” The driver kept pushing back, insisting he shouldn’t be held responsible. The officer shut it down: “The car doesn’t have a driver’s license.”
The law is clear — drivers are legally responsible for their vehicles, autopilot or not. Nice try, though. We’ve all wanted to blame something for a speeding ticket. This guy just actually did it.
