Party City is coming back (and it’s bringing the balloons to Staples)

Apr 23, 2026, 7:20 AM

Let’s be honest: as a mom of two little girls, my calendar is basically just a series of back-to-back birthday parties separated by the occasional trip to the grocery store. When Party City started closing its doors, I panicked. Where else am I supposed to find a glittery “Number 5” balloon and napkins that match a specific shade of Frozen-inspired blue at 8 p.m. on a Friday?

Well, take a deep breath, parents. The party isn’t over.

After filing for bankruptcy and shuttering locations nearly two years ago, Party City is officially staging a comeback. But you won’t be heading to a standalone store. In a move that feels like the ultimate “adulting” crossover, Party City is moving in with Staples.

Staples announced this week that it will partner with the balloon giant to house “Party City at Staples” shop-in-shops inside more than 700 locations nationwide.

I don’t know about you, but I’m actually kind of into this. Think about it: I can print out the party invitations, buy the printer paper I forgot for work, and grab a bouquet of balloons for the playroom—all in one trip.

It’s the kind of efficiency that makes me feel like I’ve finally got my life together (even if I’m definitely still showing up to the party five minutes late with half-inflated streamers).

Keep an eye out for the new displays rolling out in the Denver area soon.
