When to view Thursday’s partial lunar eclipse in and around Denver

Aug 27, 2026, 9:15 AM | Updated: 10:52 am

Good news: the universe is putting on a free show, and you don’t even have to leave Colorado to see it.

A partial lunar eclipse is happening Thursday night into early Friday morning, and Denver has a pretty great seat. Here’s your timeline so you can plan accordingly — and maybe bribe the kids to stay up past bedtime:

7:29 p.m. — Moonrise. She’s arrived.
8:33 p.m. — Partial eclipse begins
10:12 p.m. — Maximum eclipse ✨ Set that reminder NOW
11:51 p.m. — Partial eclipse ends
1:01 a.m. — Penumbral eclipse ends (for the true night owls)

From Denver, you’ll see 93-95 percent of the moon covered at peak. Head farther east and you’re looking at nearly 100 percent totality. Not bad for a Thursday.

The sweet spot for viewing is right around 10 p.m. — which, let’s be honest, is the perfect excuse to pour yourself something nice, drag a blanket outside and tell the kids this counts as science homework.

No special equipment needed. Just clear skies and a willingness to look up.

Worth it? Absolutely.
