If you have a panic attack when you can’t find your phone, now you know why. You are addicted to touching and looking at it.

According to a new report by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers’s annual Internet Trends, people check their phones an average of 150X per day. A lot of times we look at our phone just for the security of seeing it turn on with battery life.

On average we check our phones 23 times a day for messaging, 22 times for a voice call and 18 times to get the time.

Each day over 500 million photos are taken and shared between our phones. Snapchat, the app that self-destructs messages and photos within 10 seconds, has seen a huge growth of about 150 million photos shared per day.

Experts say you should make effort to manage your screen time. Set timers and leave your phone away from you until your task is complete.

If you have children, be aware of what message you are sending them. Are you always on your phone? Experts suggest that you only allow 1 hour on electronics per day for children.

The U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy even declared that social media poses a “meaningful risk of harm to children. There is also a correlation between excessive screen time and increased risk of depression, anxiety, and feelings of social isolation,” she explains.
