Back to school conversations | Hot Take Tuesday
As schools start back up, Jenny and Steve have been talking about how much education has changed over the years—and some of the things students used to learn that aren’t always taught in school anymore.
Things They Used to Teach:
Cursive writing
Penmanship
Balancing a checkbook
Things They Should Be Teaching:
Life skills
How to fill up your car with gas
Conflict resolution skills
How to have meaningful, in-person conversations
It raises an important question: Are we teaching kids the practical skills they need to navigate everyday life? While technology and academics are important, knowing how to communicate, solve problems, manage money, and take care of yourself are skills that last a lifetime.
