Denver, CO- It’s been 40 years since Prince’s iconic album, Purple Rain, was released as a movie.  Now 40 years later, another adaptation is in the works, Purple Rain on Broadway.

Purple Rain the movie told the fictional story of an up and coming rock musician in the Minneapolis area.  Hmmm… who could they be talking about?  The movie was huge and had a cult like following even back in 1984.

Purple Rain the album sold 25 million copies and gave us hits like  “Went Doves Cry,” “Lets Go Crazy,” “I Would Die 4 U,” “Take Me with U,” and of course the title song, “Purple Rain”.

The movie earned $100 million worldwide and was added into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2019.

Prince passed away April 21, 2016 at the age of 57.
