TRUCKEE – MARCH 25: Amtrak’s California Zephyr passes through the snow-covered countryside near Donner Lake on its daily 2,438-mile trip to Emeryville/San Francisco from Chicago that takes roughly 52 hours on March 25, 2017 in Truckee, United States. President Trump has proposed a national budget that would terminate federal support for Amtrak’s long distance train services, which would affect the California Zephyr and other long distance rail lines run by Amtrak. If you’re a skier, this is super exciting news.  The famed CO Ski Train is back next year and there will be even more round trips to the high country.

The Amtrak Winter Park Express will start the season on January 12th. The ‘ski train’ runs between Union Station and the base of Winter Park ski resort.

This year – there will be 40 roundtrips – that’s seven more RT than last year.

Here is the general information:

The train will run every Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting the weekend of 1/12/24 through the weekend of March 29th-31st.

  • The train departs Denver at 7 a.m. and arrives at the resort at 9 a.m. The train back to Denver leaves at 4:30pm and arrives at Union Station at 6:40pm.
  • Tickets start at $49 each way  and dates are already booking up.

Have fun!
