Do you make enough to be middle class in Colorado?

Apr 24, 2024, 10:54 AM | Updated: Apr 25, 2024, 9:43 am

We all know that living in Colorado is expensive. The real question is, do you earn enough money in the Centennial State to be considered middle class. One government report found that you would have to spend an extra $10,000 a year to live like you did in 2021.

A new report from SmartAsset reviewed data from the U.S. Census Bureau as well as the Pew Research Center to determine what it takes to be considered middle class in all 50 states. The average median household income in the U.S. was $73,914, meaning the national range for the middle class is roughly $49,271 to $147,828. Looking at Colorado, the numbers may surprise you with the large range in salaries.

Overall in Colorado, middle class means you have a salary between $59,529 and $178,604. That number does change depending on where in Colorado you live. For instance, in Highlands Ranch, you need to make more than $101,000 to be considered middle class.

Do you agree with these numbers?
