What is open or closed for Fourth of July holiday

Independence Day means a day off for many people, but some places and even some government facilities will remain open.

Nearly every nonessential state and federal government office will be closed on Thursday in celebration of the Fourth of July. With the holiday being in the middle of summer, it is among the busiest travel holidays of the year. Not only will most places that cater to visitors, like hotels, gas stations and airports, be open, expect them to be busy.

Although many government buildings will be closed, plenty of things will remain open.

What is open:

Restaurants

  • Chick-fil-A (many locations will close early)
  • Chipotle (most locations will close at 3 p.m.)
  • Applebee’s: Open from 11 am to midnight.
  • Chili’s Grill & Bar: Open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Denny’s: Open 24/7
  • IHOP: Open 24/7
  • Buffalo Wild Wings: Open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
  • Olive Garden: Open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Outback Steakhouse: Open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Panera Bread: Limited hours, check local listings.
  • Starbucks: Most locations open, hours may vary.
  • McDonald’s: Most locations open, hours may vary.

 

Stores

  • Albertsons: Normal hours
  • Best Buy (open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
  • Bass Pro Shops: Open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Big Lots:Open regular hours
  • Cabela’s:Most stores will be open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • CVS and Walgreens (some pharmacies might be closed or have limited hours)
  • Dillard’s: Stores will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Dollar General: Open regular hours.
  • Gap (openings will depend on mall hours)
  • Home Depot: Many locations will close early at 8 p.m.
  • King Soopers: Store hours vary by location.
  • Home Depot (Open regular hours)
  • Lowe’s (many locations will close early)
  • Macys: Open with reduced hours
  • Old Navy (openings will depend on mall hours)
  • Petco/Petsmart:Open, but some locations may close early.
  • Sam’s Club: Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Plus members, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Club members
  • Safeway: Open but pharmacy hours may vary.
  • Target (Open regular hours)
  • Trader Joe’s: Open but closing at 5 p.m.
  • Walmart (Open regular hours)
  • Whole Foods (Limited hours)

 

  • National parks are open

What is closed:

  • Costco
  • Nonessential federal offices, courthouses
  • U.S. post offices and no mail delivery.
  • Banks and financial institutions
  • Stock markets.
  • FedEx and UPS will not have pickup or delivery services.

Transportation

Public transportation systems may run on a holiday schedule, with some services reduced or not operating. It’s best to check with your local transit authority for specific details.
