What Is ‘Pebbling’—and why are teens doing It and parents loving it?
Talking to teens can be tough sometimes. But Parents Daily says there’s a fresh way they’re connecting with their parents and loved ones that seems to be breaking down those emotional walls. It’s called “pebbling.”
While it originally described romantic relationships, it’s now being used in other kinds of relationships, like between parents and kids. The term comes from gentoo penguins in Antarctica, who were seen giving each other rocks as part of their courtship rituals. Those penguins used the rocks to symbolize their wish to build a nest together.
Nowadays, pebbling means sending small tokens of love or affection to friends or loved ones that you think will make them smile. This often takes the form of memes, GIFs, or fun social media clips that you share to brighten someone’s day.
If you’re curious about why kids are constantly sharing memes and videos online, you’re not alone. Experts say that pebbling on social media has become a way for them to bond, enhance their interactions, and express their feelings.
