WATCH – Colorado Rockies PA announcer steals the show with last-minute National Anthem at Coors Field

Jun 5, 2026, 12:05 AM

If you’ve been to a Rockies game at Coors Field, you know the voice… Reed Saunders has been the club’s in-stadium PA announcer for years — the guy who tells you who’s batting, who’s pitching, and to drive home safely. But earlier this month, when the scheduled National Anthem performer was a no-show, Saunders grabbed a microphone and showed 40,000 fans he can do a whole lot more than read lineups.

“Please rise and remove your caps as we honor America with the singing of our national anthem,” Saunders told the crowd, before adding with a beat, “as performed by me.” Then he delivered — a clean, powerful rendition that drew a roar from a crowd that probably didn’t know the PA guy had pipes.

The Rockies posted the clip to their social media channels, where it racked up thousands of views and a wave of local love. Former Rockies outfielder Ryan Spilborghs summed up the reaction: “This was awesome. Good job Reeeeeeeeeed.”

It’s the kind of moment that doesn’t require a winning record to appreciate — and let’s be honest, the Rockies don’t offer that often. But Colorado fans have always treated Coors Field as more than a scoreboard. It’s a summer evening with the Rocky Mountains over the left-field bleachers, a craft beer in one hand and a Rockie Dog in the other. And now it’s the PA announcer stepping up to sing the anthem like he’s been waiting his whole career for the chance. Sometimes the best part of the ballpark experience has nothing to do with the final score.
