Top Halloween costumes for 2026

Still deciding what to be for Halloween? Spirit Halloween’s 2026 costume trend report might help narrow it down.
Top advice – stay away from too short or too sexy. We are over the mouse in a bodysuit.
Toy Story characters, KPop Demon Hunters and Spider-Man are among this year’s highlighted costumes.
A family dressed as Woody, Jessie and Buzz sounds pretty cute—until two kids want to be Buzz.
Other trends include sporty looks inspired by Off Campus, Greek gods and warriors, and oversized inflatable costumes for anyone who would rather get a laugh than give someone a scare.
But here in Colorado, I’d add one requirement: Can you fit warm clothes underneath it? Every kid in Colorado needs to be prepared to wear a coat while trick or treating. It can snow.
I would also like to add a reminder that a good costume also has comfortable shoes. The shoes deserve just as much consideration as the costume if you’re walking the neighborhood collecting candy, or out partying with wobbly legs.
Want to give your costume a Colorado twist? My suggestions: a zombie in a Broncos jersey, an ’80s skier, or a hiker wearing a sign that says, “You Said This Trail Was Easy.”
Those aren’t on Spirit’s list, but you might already have most of the outfit in your closet. I like DIY costumes.
When it comes to making any costume shorter and sexier, it isn’t exactly a costume concept. Give me a clever reference, a ridiculous pun—something that took more imagination than deciding how much leg to show.
What’s the costume plan at your house this year—the girls and I usually average 3 costumes per Halloween. We are always ready for a good haunt.
