You could see the smoke plume from miles away as it blew across I-25 in Thornton on Wednesday afternoon.
Thornton police said around 2 p.m. that the fire is contained, and firefighters are working to cool hot spots.
No residential structures were damaged or burned, police said.
A portion of Interstate 25 was closed as a precautionary measure due to limited visibility, police said. The road reopened in both directions around 1:15 p.m.
We knew it was going to be a red flag wind advisory day. The response by first responder’s was phenomenal. Bad timing for the warning calls as the city of Thornton is in between emergency notification systems.
Thank you to listeners Wendy for sending in a picture and to Nancy in Thornton for the video.
We need to be very careful this week and for the next few months. The current fire danger will stay with us for another 24 hours.
