Think twice before wearing flip flops

Nothing says summer like throwing on a pair of flip flops… but apparently, our favorite lazy-day footwear comes with a few warnings.
In honor of National Flip Flop Day, yes that’s a real thing, there are warnings for enjoying the freedom of air on your toes.
Surveys have found that around 70% of Americans own at least one pair, and many of us live in them once the weather gets warm.
But podiatrists say flip flops can be rough on your feet because they offer almost no arch support, can change the way you walk, and may lead to heel pain, shin splints, or even back issues.
Not to mention the scabby heels if you wear them too long. Yuk.
And here’s the wild one: studies have linked flip flops to thousands of driving accidents or near-misses, because they can slip off or get stuck under pedals.
There are also injuries from people tripping on their own flip flops.
So celebrate National Flip Flop Day… just maybe don’t wear them behind the wheel!
