The Odyssey opens in theaters today and it’s already epic

Jul 17, 2026, 4:40 PM

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey hits theaters today, July 17, and the buzz is MASSIVE.

The film — which Nolan wrote, produced, and directed — is the first movie in history shot entirely on IMAX film cameras, making it a visual experience unlike anything we’ve ever seen.

The cast? Unreal. Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, with Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Zendaya as Athena, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron.

It’s an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem — a 3,000-year-old story brought to life with a $250-million budget and a 172-minute runtime.

Early audiences are raving, preview night pulled in $17.6 million (the best of 2026!), and it’s tracking for a $117 million opening weekend.

If you see one movie this summer, make it this one — and see it on the BIGGEST screen you can find.
