Here are some predictions from 1950s about today’s world that didn’t pan out

Jetpacks were supposed to be everywhere. Some designers thought jetpacks would be as ordinary as bicycles, not just sci-fi gimmicks

The moon would have subdivisions. Some 1950s thinkers assumed the moon would have developed residential neighborhoods and vacation domes

The U.S. would fully adopt the Metric System (umm…not so much)

Robot housekeepers were inevitable. Rosie from “The Jetsons” and other humanoid robots would be cooking dinner, changing diapers and serving as butlers and handymen for us. Best we got is the Roomba, which apparently is going away.

Fusion would replace every other energy source. Scientists and policy writers thought fusion would power cities by 2000. But, the reactors never made it there despite huge budgets and decades of research.

It would be interesting to get predictions from 2026 about how things will probably be 70 years from now and see how many actually turn out to be right.
