Experts weigh in on why Coloradans are struggling to get jobs

We keep hearing that jobs are out there. Plenty of them, supposedly. So why are so many qualified Coloradans still struggling to find work?
Older professional workers with years of experience and polished skills say the search has been unexpectedly difficult. Many describe applying for dozens, sometimes hundreds, of jobs and hearing little or nothing back.
Experts say there are a few reasons the job market can feel so frustrating right now.
Some companies are posting jobs but moving slowly on hiring. Others may be collecting resumes for future openings or leaving listings online after positions are already filled. Applicants are also dealing with automated screening tools that can reject resumes before a human ever sees them.
For older workers, the challenge can feel even sharper. Some worry about age bias, salary expectations or being seen as “overqualified,” even when they are ready and willing to work. Colorado’s job market also varies by industry. While some sectors are hiring, professional and higher-paying roles may be more competitive than the overall numbers suggest.
For job seekers, experts recommend tailoring resumes to each role, using keywords from the posting, networking directly with people at companies and following up when possible.
Because right now, finding a job in Colorado is not just about experience. It is also about getting past the bots, the ghost postings and the silence.
