Sleep tourism takes off in 2026

May 16, 2026, 8:43 AM

Rest is the new adventure. Forget jam-packed itineraries. Just give me a bed with no interruptions.

This summer, a growing number of travelers are booking vacations with one goal in mind: better sleep.

Known as sleep tourism, the trend has become one of 2026’s most talked-about travel movements. Hotels, wellness resorts and even medical-led retreats are now designing entire stays around quality rest — offering smart beds, blackout rooms, sleep coaching, circadian rhythm support and personalized spa treatments.

The demand reflects a real problem. According to the National Sleep Foundation, six in 10 American adults aren’t getting the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep each night. Meanwhile, the global sleep tourism sector is valued at over $690 billion and is projected to grow by another $400 billion by 2028.

For burned-out travelers, the message is clear: the best destination might just be a great night’s sleep.
