Rattlesnake season is here, and it’s a threat to your dog

By Murphy Huston on April 17, 2024

Spring is here, which means time for hiking, biking and snakes — rattlesnakes! In Colorado, there are thousands of rattlers. They are not aggressive by nature, but they will bite if they feel threatened. So, if you are taking your dog on a hike, keep him or her on a leash in areas we are not familiar with and do not let him get into underbrush and get far away from you. Most dogs bitten by snakes suffer wounds in the face and nose.

More than 90 percent of the bites are on the face of your dog. Remember, the worst thing you can do if your dogs gets bitten by a rattler is wait to get help. Find a veterinary clinic right a away.
