Law enforcement agencies in the Denver area are keeping an eye out this week for drivers with expired tags. The Denver Police Department (DPD), Colorado State Patrol (CSP), Aurora Police Department (APD), and Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) kicked off a week-long enforcement effort on Monday along the I-25 and I-70 corridors.
This operation is focused on expired vehicle registrations and temporary license plates, similar to a campaign DPD ran in July, which resulted in 430 tickets for expired registrations. That initiative led to a 30% boost in vehicle owners getting their registrations updated, according to the police.
If you don’t renew your vehicle registration, you could face a $95 fine. For those living in Denver, newly purchased or acquired vehicles must be registered in person at a local Division of Motor Vehicles office. However, you can renew your registration online or at a kiosk.
For more details on vehicle registration or renewal, including where to find branches and kiosks, as well as online services, check out the Denver Motor Vehicle website.
