Is ‘Ozempic Personality’ Real? Doctors Weigh In on New Side Effect Reports

May 20, 2026, 7:36 AM

As the popularity of injectable weight-loss medications like Ozempic continues to climb across the Front Range, a new, concerning side effect is capturing national headlines: “Ozempic Personality.”

Recent reports from NBC suggest that some users are experiencing emotional numbness while on the medication. Patients are describing a loss of interest in hobbies they once loved, a sensation of feeling “flat,” and a general withdrawal from activities that previously brought them joy.

As a Colorado native, living and working right here in Denver, I know how much we value our vibrant, active lifestyles—from hitting the trails in Golden to enjoying our local music scene. The idea that a medication could dull that spark is understandably unsettling.

Medical experts are urging caution, noting that while these anecdotal reports are significant, more clinical research is needed to determine if there is a direct biological link between the drug and these mood changes. It remains unclear whether the emotional shift is a physiological side effect of the medication or a psychological response to the rapid change in body image and lifestyle.

If you are currently taking Ozempic or similar GLP-1 medications and feel like you aren’t quite yourself, please don’t ignore those feelings. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Reach out to your prescribing physician to discuss your symptoms—they may be able to adjust your dosage or offer guidance to help you navigate these changes.
