Ice Castles is making a comeback for a second winter in Cripple Creek, along with a brand-new site in Eagle. This enchanting exhibition features ice-carved tunnels, caverns, fountains, slides, frozen thrones, towers, and crawl spaces. The expansive winter wonderlands are beautifully lit at night with color-changing LED lights embedded in the ice.
Construction for this frosty attraction is set to kick off in late October. A dedicated team of around 20 ice artisans will spend several weeks crafting the experience, meticulously growing, harvesting, and placing icicles one by one.
Each castle is built by hand and takes thousands of hours to create. The daily process consists of growing 5,000-12,000 icicles that are harvested by hand and individually sculpted into existing ice formations.
You’ll be able to experience ice slides, caverns and archways as well as crawl tunnels.
Typically, Ice Castles opens its doors in late December or early January, depending on weather conditions, and remains open until early March. “We are excited to introduce a second location in Colorado this winter, where we can create a magical experience for our visitors,” shared Ice Castles’ CEO Kyle Standifird. “Our team is eager to build an attraction in Eagle that enhances the breathtaking natural beauty near the Eagle River.”
Tickets for the frozen fortresses will be available for purchase starting November 26 at IceCastles.com. Cripple Creek is also famous for its annual Ice Festival, which is scheduled for February 15 to February 23, 2025.
