Jun 18, 2024, 9:58 AM | Updated: 12:59 pm

If you forget your reusable bag, you will pay 10 cents for a disposable bag at the store. While a few cents does not sound like a lot the total amount spent in disposable bags across Denver added up to millions. In an effort to reduce waste, the “bring your own bag law” was enacted in 2021 and charged customers 10 cents for disposable bags.  Three years later, the initiative moved some of us to use reusable bags. Or just carry full arms with the goodies.

According to Denver’s Disposable Bag Fee Team, this policy cut down on they amount of disposable bags the city used.

The bag fee team told retailers 31,851,792 disposable bags were used in 2023,down from 37,258,091 bags used in 2022. Since the start of the program, the city totaled —-$5.76 million from bag fees.
