How did a cougar manage to travel 1,000 miles from Utah to Colorado?

Scientists from Utah have monitored the impressive 1,000-mile trip of a cougar from the Utah mountains to eastern Colorado. Morgan Hinton, a wildlife biologist, mentioned in a blog post from the ¬†Utah Division of Wildlife Resources’ blog¬†that they started putting GPS tracking collars on over 60 adult cougars in the state in 2018.

These collars offer biologists important information on cougars, such as their feeding habits, reproduction, survival rates, causes of death, and movements.

Hinton stated that scientists have observed some remarkable cougar movements in Utah, but one cougar stood out by traveling just over 1,000 miles in 165 days. According to Hinton, this is one of the longest journeys ever recorded for a GPS-tracked cougar.
