One of the two hotels used in, “The Shining” movie with Jack Nicholson caught fire and suffered structural damage. The hotel is located in Oregon and served as the exterior shots of the hotel featured in the movie.

Most Coloradoans are familiar with and have visited The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. The hotel has had numerous US President’s stay there but was made famous as the location of the horror movie, “The Shining.” Visitors to the hotel try and map out where scenes from the movie took place. Many have wondered where the big open lobby was, as well as the different exterior. Those scenes were filmed at the Timberline Lodge in Oregon just outside Portland.

A fire broke out at the Timberline Ski Lodge just after 10pm. The fire was contained to the roof and the attic.  Preservationists tried to save what they deemed “historic assets.”

In the movie, “The Shining” Coloradoans can get a familiar glimpse of the old Stapleton Airport off of Quebec, as well as hear the legendary Denver 80’s morning radio show, Hal and Charlie on the radio as the caretaker is driving in the blizzard to Estes Park.
