Mar 28, 2026, 8:30 AM

Economic jitters can’t stop the Easter Bunny. Easter falls on April 5 this year, and 80% of Americans plan to celebrate.

Americans are expected to spend an average of $195.59 per person this Easter — up nearly 2% from last year — pushing total holiday spending to a record $24.9 billion, according to the National Retail Federation.

That’s a 5.5% jump from 2025.

Candy tops the shopping list, with 92% of households planning to buy sweets despite prices rising 12% year over year. The NRF pegs total candy spending at $3.5 billion.

And yes, your Cadbury Mini Eggs bag is smaller this year — down from 10 ounces to 9.

Candy prices have climbed 45% over the past five years, and we’re still buying.

The good news? Eggs are finally affordable again –just in time for deviled eggs, Easter egg hunts and holiday baking.

Gift spending is up to $3.9 billion. Clothing sales are expected to hit $3.7 billion, with 51% of consumers planning a new Easter outfit.

Even flower spending is blooming — up to $2.2 billion from $1.9 billion a year ago.

Nearly 60% of respondents say Easter traditions run deep in their families.

More than half plan to spend the day with family and friends, 43% will attend church and 36% will plan an Easter egg hunt.
