The pickleball boom is real.
In the 2023 APP Pickleball Participation report, the latest numbers from a study conducted by YouGov reveal that 14% of Americans tried their hand at pickleball within a year. Surprisingly, over 8.5 million people played pickleball eight times or more.
Pickleball, a unique blend of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, was born in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Three fathers, seeking to entertain their bored children, combined elements from various sports to create this exciting game. Unlike a regulation tennis court, a pickleball court measures only twenty feet wide and forty-four feet long. However, don’t be fooled into thinking the game is three-quarters easier than tennis. It still requires skill and strategy.
The sport’s rapid rise in popularity can be attributed to several factors. Pickleball is easy to learn, and players can grasp the basics in just a few lessons. Additionally, the cost of entry is relatively low compared to sports like tennis or golf. You don’t need an expensive country club membership, and a decent paddle can be purchased for $100 to $200. Furthermore, pickleball offers a fantastic opportunity for social interaction. It allows people of all ages to make new friends while enjoying the game. Although boomers dominate the sport, younger players are increasingly joining in on the fun.
3rd Shot Pickleball is located at 3545 Wadsworth Blvd in Wheat Ridge.
