Colorado gas stations give out contaminated fuel

Jan 9, 2026, 6:28 PM

Anyone who got gas after around 2 p.m. Wednesday or on Thursday and thinks they were affected can file a complaint with Colorado’s Division of Oil and Public Safety.

At least 200 complaints filed after multiple Colorado gas stations received contaminated fuel.

State inspectors say diesel fuel was mistakenly delivered into regular gas tanks at several stations across Colorado. The issue was first spotted at a Costco gas station in Sheridan, and testing confirmed diesel in the regular gas supply.

The state is now investigating stations tied to King Soopers, Costco, and Murphy Express. Officials say the fuel likely came from a Sinclair terminal that serves much of the state, so the impact could be widespread.

The deliveries happened between Wednesday afternoon and early Thursday morning. King Soopers says about a dozen of its stations were affected. Drivers who filled up during that time and noticed a problem are encouraged to contact the station and file a complaint with the state.
