Colorado is 45th – bottom of list for marriage longevity

Location. Location. Location matters…even when it comes to the longevity of marriages. West Virginia is for lovers and their marriages last an average of 22.6 years, making it the top state for marriage longevity.
Wisconsin comes in close second at 22.5 years, followed by Vermont at 22.4 years. “In states like West Virginia, community support and traditional values play a huge role in keeping marriages intact,” Deepa Tailor of Divorce Lawyers said.
Researchers add that the emphasis on traditional family life in Wisconsin, the progressive yet family-focused culture of Vermont, and the outdoor lifestyle of Montana all contribute to creating environments where marriages can thrive.
On the other hand, Alaska ranks last with the average marriage lasting 16.8 years. Stress, economic instability, and high cost of living all put strain on marriages.
“States with longer marriages often have stable economies, strong community support, and traditional values,” Tailor said.
High-stress urban environments, frequent relocations, and career pressures can strain marriages, as the study found in states like Colorado and Washington.
The findings also show a six-year gap between the states with the longest and shortest marriages.
Personally, I feel that any marriage that lasts longer than 5 years is a success. 15 years and more is a success to me. Love always has its own way of working out.
