Bear disrupts move-in day at Colorado State University

Aug 18, 2026, 4:39 PM | Updated: Aug 19, 2026, 3:53 pm

A bear was spotted near Eddy Hall during move-in day at Colorado State University.

It’s always a little chaotic on move in day— nervous freshmen, overloaded minivans, parents who won’t stop crying in the parking lot. But today? CSU got an unexpected visitor.

The bear disrupted students that were hauling mini-fridges and fairy lights into their dorms.

No word on whether it was checking out the meal plan or just looking for a roommate, but nothing says “Welcome to Colorado” quite like a bear casually strolling through campus on your first day. CSU officials managed the situation and students were kept safe. But somewhere out there, a freshman is calling home saying, “Mom, you’re not going to believe this…”

Campus police and wildlife officials secured the bear safely by 10:40 a.m., and normal campus operations resumed.

Look — if you can survive a bear on move-in day, you can survive anything. Finals included.

Welcome to Fort Collins, Class of 2030. It’s going to be a wild ride.
