AJ McLean’s daughter, Elliott, has a strong dislike for the Backstreet Boys’ hit song “I Want It That Way,” as she gets teased at school when the boys sing the lyrics to her.
Despite this, McLean enjoys embarrassing his daughter by singing the song to her.
The Backstreet Boys achieved major success with their self-titled debut album in 1996, but it was their third album, “Millennium,” that catapulted them to pop stardom with hits like “Larger Than Life” and “I Want It That Way.” The band settled the debate over the song’s ambiguous lyrics in 2018, clarifying the meaning on social media.
AJ McLean humorously admitted that the song “makes no sense,” but believes its nonsensical nature contributed to its massive success.
