Amazon bringing Waymo competition in Denver with Zoox

With the autonomous driverless cab service, Waymo, just recently beginning operations in Denver, it may not be long before it gets its first taste of direct competition as Amazon’s Zoox service will soon be operating a small test fleet in Denver for a few months this winter to train their technology on driving in winter conditions such as heavy rain and snow.

On Zoox website, they describe their vehicle as not being a car but “a robotaxi designed around you.”  The interior includes charging pads, cupholders and plenty of room both for riders and for their bags and items.

The service has already begun in 12 cities such as Austin, Miami and San Francisco and most recently adding Houston and San Diego.

Waymo also typically tests their fleet in a city during the Winter season, but with Denver experiencing a warmer than normal Winter last year, they had to test their fleet in other cities last year before officially launching operations in Denver.
