Classic Dolly Parton movies are playing at select AMC Theaters locations – here’s where to watch in Denver

If you’re still processing the loss of Dolly Parton, AMC Theatres is giving you a beautiful reason to sit in a dark room, eat popcorn and cry happy tears this weekend. The theater chain announced it’s bringing two of Dolly’s most beloved movies, “Steel Magnolias” (1989) and “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” (1982), back to the big screen at approximately 200 locations nationwide, starting Friday and running through Sept. 2. Both films are being offered at AMC’s discounted Fan Faves pricing, with two matinee screenings daily, one of each film.

For Denver-area fans looking to honor the Queen of Country with a movie night, AMC has several locations across the metro that are part of the roughly 200 participating theaters. Check the AMC app or amctheatres.com for specific showtimes at locations like AMC Highlands Ranch 24, AMC Westminster Promenade 24, AMC Flatiron Crossing 14 and others around the Front Range. Participating theaters will have showtimes posted through the AMC mobile app and website, just search “Steel Magnolias” or “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” and filter by your local theater.

In “Steel Magnolias,” Dolly stars as Truvy Jones, the sharp-tongued beauty parlor owner, alongside Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis and Daryl Hannah in one of the most quotable movies of the ’80s. In “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,” she plays Miss Mona opposite Burt Reynolds in the raunchy musical comedy that earned her a Golden Globe nomination. Dolly made just four theatrical films in the 1980s, these two, “9 to 5” and “Rhinestone,” and seeing any of them on a big screen is a rare treat. AMC isn’t the only chain honoring her either: Harkins Theatres is showing both films Aug. 29–30 with $6 tickets, and all proceeds going to Dolly’s Imagination Library.
