Legend Dolly Parton passes away at 80

Aug 25, 2026, 3:00 PM

Dolly Parton was a legend. She crossed every generation. She had a seven decade career.

Dolly Parton was my favorite person on the planet. I have two favorite T-shirts — one is Dolly, and the other one is also Dolly.

My grandparents loved her, my parents loved her, I love her. I grew up watching every Christmas special, every movie, I still watched her movies to this day and The Best Little “house” in Texas will always be my favorite…my . She brought my family and me so much joy.

Over a seven-decade career, she won eleven Grammys, an Emmy, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

But what made Dolly Dolly was what she did when the cameras weren’t rolling.

Her Imagination Library gave away more than 300 million free books to children around the world. When wildfires destroyed her home county, she raised twelve million dollars and handed families a thousand dollars a month until they were back on their feet. She gave millions more for hurricane relief and children’s hospitals. She even promised kids in her hometown five hundred dollars to stay in school — and cut the dropout rate from 35 percent to 6.

She walked the walk.

Everyone was worried about her when she lost her husband, Carl last March.

Dolly just released a message yesterday saying she needed to take better care of her health. It declined when she became a caregiver for Carl and the grief.

Today, surrounded by family, she left us.

Dolly always made people happy. She left every room — and every person in it — better than she found them.

Through all the laughs, she loved Carl and she loved Jesus, and she never once apologized for either.

She lived her truth. She was kind. She once said, “If you see someone without a smile, give ’em yours.”

In a family statement goodbye video shared by her nephew, Brian Seaver.

Dolly Parton said that she wanted to rest in a “beautiful bed of plush cotton because after a life of wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest.” Yes, you do, Dolly.

There will never be another Dolly. Thank you Dolly from my soul. I will always love you.
