Nutella Ice Cream Is Here and Your Freezer Is About to Get a Whole Lot Better

Look, we’ve all been there — standing at the kitchen counter at midnight, spoon in a jar of Nutella, telling ourselves this totally counts as dessert. Well, those days of improvising are officially over. After decades of people freezing jars, blending DIY shakes and generally trying to force the spread into dessert form themselves, Nutella ice cream has officially arrived nationwide.

It was announced a couple of days ago that Nutella Ice Cream — the only ice cream made with real Nutella — is now available in freezers everywhere. And yes, we mean real Nutella, not some knock-off hazelnut-chocolate fake out.

A Long Time Coming

The launch marks Nutella’s first ice cream since Ferrero launched the hazelnut cocoa spread in 1964. So, yeah — only took about 60 years. But hey, good things come to those who wait, and all that.

“Nutella has been a beloved part of people’s lives for more than 60 years and bringing it to the freezer aisle is a milestone moment fans have been waiting for,” said Noah Szporn, Senior Vice President of Nutella at Ferrero North America. We’d say that’s an understatement.

The Nutella Ice Cream line is manufactured by Wells Enterprises in partnership with Ferrero and brings the iconic hazelnut-cocoa spread to the freezer aisle in two formats: 14-ounce tubs and single-serve wafer cones. Wells Enterprises is the largest privately held ice cream manufacturer in the United States, founded in 1913, and is part of the Ferrero Group, one of the global leaders in sweet, packaged foods. So yeah, Nutella is basically keeping it in the family.

Wells Enterprises makes several popular ice cream brands including Blue Bunny, Halo Top, Bomb Pop and Blue Ribbon Classics — so these folks know their way around a freezer aisle.

What’s in the Lineup

14-oz. Tubs

The tubs feature a layer of Nutella on top, creamy hazelnut-flavored ice cream, and thick swirls of Nutella mixed throughout. It’s the unmistakable Nutella hazelnut-cocoa taste in a rich, multi-textured, spoonable format made for slow evenings and sharing at home. Or, you know, not sharing. We’re not judging. Prices start around $4.36 to $4.69, depending on the retailer.

Single-Serve Cones

The 3.04-fluid-ounce single-serve cones combine the iconic flavor of Nutella with a satisfying crispy wafer cone, delivering a premium treat for spontaneous moments on the go. These are sold in 4-packs, with a suggested retail price starting at $5.47, depending on the retail channel.

Both formats are made with real Nutella — not a flavor approximation, not a “hazelnut-inspired” something-or-other. Wells Enterprises says this marks the first frozen dessert made with actual Nutella spread, folds Nutella swirls and layers directly into the base, aiming to deliver the same flavor people have been scraping from jars since the 1960s.

As Isabella Chia, Chief Marketing Officer at Wells Enterprises, put it: “Nutella is one of the most trusted flavors in the world and our job was simple: don’t mess it up. Every decision we made was in service of delivering exactly what fans expect, now in a format they can enjoy straight from the freezer.” Honestly, that’s the right energy.

Tips for Serving

Both the cones and tubs are made with real Nutella. For the best possible experience, the manufacturer recommends letting the tub sit at room temperature for about 5 minutes before digging in — that’s all it takes to hit that perfect soft, creamy consistency. Pro tip: set a timer, because once that jar is open, the 5-minute wait is going to feel like forever.
