What would you do if you saw a kangaroo hopping down your street? Douglas County deputies recently responded to that exact call in a Highlands Ranch neighborhood.
The “kangaroo” turned out to be Charlie the Wallaby, a local celebrity with his own Instagram page. (Yes, I looked it up. Yes, I followed.) The sheriff’s office reported everyone stayed safe as Charlie made his way home. Living in Colorado, I’ve grown accustomed to the occasional wildlife encounter. I’ve spotted turkeys strutting through my neighborhood like they own the place, which honestly isn’t that unusual around here. We share our space with deer, foxes and the occasional bold coyote. But a wallaby? That would absolutely make my day.
There’s something wonderful about these unexpected animal moments that remind us the world still has room for surprise and delight. Whether it’s a turkey blocking traffic or a wallaby taking himself for a walk, these encounters bring neighbors together and give us all a reason to smile.
