Watch: Bear spotted wandering around Denver suburb of Lone Tree

Aug 19, 2024, 6:45 PM | Updated: Aug 20, 2024, 8:49 am

A small bear was spotted wandering through the Acres Green neighborhood near Lone Tree around 8 a.m. on Monday.

The bear was seen slowly walking through a yard before disappearing behind shrubbery on the side of one house.

About an hour later, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office posted photos on “X” of a bear around Acres Green and Maximus Drive. The bear was pictured walking through yards and even sitting on the front porch of a home.

By 10 a.m., the sheriff’s office said the bear moved into Lone Tree where authorities were tracking it.

South Metro Fire Rescue posted  about three hours later of a bear in the area of Park Meadows mall. They closed Park Meadows Center Drive and asked the public to avoid the area.

The bear was safely relocated. Colorado Parks and Wildlife says that bears have been spotted in many neighborhoods because they are looking for food and preparing for winter.

CPW asks people to haze the bears if they encounter them. They suggest making loud noises like with car alarms, pots and pans, air horns or yelling. They also ask people to keep all trash locked until the morning of pickup and to make sure grills are thoroughly cleaned so they do not smell like food residue.
